This page outlines the official policy of Eckstein Snow Sports Program and the use of Academic Progress Reports:
We (the Snow Sports Staff and Chaperones) DO require that students maintain their grades of a C or better in all classes during their time of participation. This is the same as any other sport in the school. That said, because the Snow Sports program is an additional expense (and our other sports are not) and Youth Sports Services does not allow refunds, we adhere to the following amendment: If a student enters a Snow Sports Program week with a grade that does not meet our academic requirement a contract will be made between the Snow Sports staff, the Student, and the Parent/Guardian that active improvement towards an improved grade must be made from week to week.
During this week the student is on a sort of probation. Between each week (and week thereafter) we must see active improvement and we will be in contact with all teachers involved to ensure that this is taking place. If by Wednesday of the skiing week no active improvement has been made, then we will contact you (the parent/guardian) and make our recommendation that the student not attend the Snow Sports program for that week.
The first consequence shall be recommendation that the student attend Catch Up Cafe, Homework Center, and/or Saturday School. If a student is referred to either of these locations and fails to show up then a further consequence of suspension from the Snow Sports Program will result.
If you do not participate for the week you have two options regarding the vacant seat: (1) you can sell the seat for $40 to anyone that you deem necessary; or (2) you can leave the seat vacant and allow us to fill it as we see fit but we may not be able to collect a fee for the seat. In either case it would be great if there was some other consequence involved, say of community service to ensure the safety of our students and parents around the buses during loading and/or unloading. In the end, however, the exact logistics of this are up to each individual Parent/Guardian team.
Above all else, we do not want the privilege of participating in our Snow Sports Program to interfere with our students’ academic abilities and expectations.
