EAC, ASB, PTSA, teacher requests – Where Does All the Money Go?
The Eckstein Annual Campaign (EAC) is the largest fundraiser for Eckstein. It provides academic and facilities support and focuses on funding requests that benefit large numbers of students at Eckstein. Some of the resources funded this year are:
- books in Language Arts classrooms that coordinate with the Readers and Writers Workshop curriculum ($11,000)
- science supplies ($3,000)
- technology supplies and support ($10,250)
- auditorium shelves, microphones, cabinets ($5,500)
- music support ($4,000)
- library books, online subscription ($7,500)
- volunteer coordinator ($8,000)
- classroom supplies ($5,000)
- art supplies ($2,000)
- library assistant ($5,400)
- PTSA mini-grants to teachers ($9000)
The Eckstein Annual Campaign is closely associated with the PTSA, but is a separate organization to enable donations by credit card through the Alliance for Education.
Here’s what we would like to fund in addition to the basic needs: Science Technology Initiative (STI). The STI would provide funding for sixteen laptop computers, eight sets of probes, and training for teachers to use the probes and software ($35,000). The equipment would be used by all Eckstein science classes. The STI would allow teams of two students to capture data with the probes, upload it to the laptops, and share it with the rest of the class.

The PTSA is a membership organization. Most of your membership fee goes to local, state and national PTSA organizations. The PTSA mission is three-fold: to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools in the nation.
