Based on nominations from Eckstein parents, the Golden Acorn committee has chosen Kathy Briggs as the 2010 Eckstein
PTSA Golden Acorn Award winner. Congratulations, and thanks to Kathy for her nearly decade-long contributions to Eckstein!

Other nominees this year:

Van Kantner
LauraLeigh Young
Miriam Doyle
Arlene Hing-Loh
Heather Lisagor

Here is a sample of what nominators had to say about their nominees.

*******************************************

Kathy Briggs

“Kathy should be nominated the most caring business woman of the year. She is the ombudswoman for Laurelhurst, Eckstein, and Roosevelt.

kathy has never sought even one minute of attention while doing the job of ten people.

I would say Kathy Briggs is a great role model for students and adults of what one does for community.”

“Without Kathy’s leadership, there would be no magazine sale….”

Other nominations

***************************************************

Van Kantner

“Please consider Van Kantner for the Golden Acorn. In addition to the stellar work she’s done as treasurer of PTSA, she’s also stepped up and managed the directory and all of the PTSA membership stuff. Not to mention keeping us on the straight and narrow when it comes to PTSA rules and regulations.

She is truly deserving.”

“Van’s attention to details and knowledge of PTSA rules are invaluable assets to the Eckstein parent community.”

**************************************************

LauraLeigh Young

“She is always working hard to find volunteer for a myriad of things at Eckstein. And when she can’t find enough people to cover things like school tours or catch-up cafe, she fills in herself so it ends up seeming like she volunteers for everything.”

“The Volunteer Co-ordination machine at Eckstein runs smoothly thanks to LauraLeigh.”

****************************************************

Miriam Doyle

for her efforts with the orchestra.

***************************************************

Arlene Hing-Loh

orchestra parent responsible for e-mail communications.

*******************************************************

Heather Lisagor

She is the parent volunteer coordinating the following performance groups.

Nearly 500 students:

6 concert bands
3 jazz bands
1 vocal jazz
3 combos

All of the band meetings

All aspects of fundraising, activities, concerts, field trips, and student welfare.

She has been very professional and a great Eckstein representative.

*******************************************************

An easy way to help our PTSA raise important funds is to participate in the Safeway eScrip Program. Every time you use your Safeway Club Card, up to 4% of your purchases will go to Eckstein at no cost to you!

Last year, we raised over $10,000 through this program. However, there is potential to raise so much more! The proceeds are used to fund school enrichment programs such as teacher mini-grants, 8th grade dinners, etc.

To register, please email me (jmturv@comcast.net) the following information and I’ll take care of the rest. It’s fast, easy, simple and will greatly benefit our children at Eckstein. Just copy and paste the following six rows, fill it out and email it to me. Do it today!

Name:

Address:

City/St

Phone:

Email:

Safeway Club Card #: (11 digit number on Red Card, NOT your phone number)

If you don’t know your Safeway Club Card number, please call 1-877-SAFEWAY to get your card number for registration.Yes, you can continue to use your phone number at the store and continue to receive all your perks from Safeway.

Did you know? You can support up to 3 schools at one time. If you have kids at other schools, you can split the contributions and raise money for more than one school of your choosing.

Did you know?Grandpa/Grandma/Uncles/Aunts/Neighbors can contribute too.. Spread the word! Send them the link to this page.

More info on this program can be found at http://www.escrip.com

If you have any questions, please feel free send an email to jmturv@comcast.net.We welcome your thoughts and suggestions at any time.

Thank you!
