Hidden Killers All about deadly viruses, from ThinkQuest

KidsHealth.org This is a comprehensive web site sponsored by the Nemours Foundation and dedicated to providing up-to-date health information for students.

MedicineNet
Site for researching topics about health and disease. Includes a medical dictionary. Sponsored by a network of medical doctors.

Medline Plus
This contains a listing of diseases in alphabetical order and links to pages where you can get more specific information about those diseases. Many of the articles that reference the diseases are at a fairly high reading level. You could print the articles and obtain help from a teacher or a professional to help you translate the information into simpler terms.

Museum of Human Disease
This site contains interactive images of diseased organs. Recommended for higher-level students and/or those needing images for presentation purposes.

Nervous System Disorders From Rush University in Chicago, this site contains information on many of the diseases associated with the brain and nervous system.

Respiratory Disorder
Find out about various respiratory disorders here.

Crohn’s Disease This page offers extensive information about Crohn’s Disease and its treatment.

Eating Disorders Anorexia and bulimia are the main focus of this page from MedicineNet.

The challenge:  Read one article about NCAA basketball for each of the 4 rounds of the tournament.  Students who read 4 articles and complete the documentation ticket will be invited to an incredible lunchtime celebration!

The rules:  1) Find an article 2) Read the article 3) Complete the article documentation ticket 4) Turn in the ticket in the LRC ballot box.  5) Have fun!

Tournament dates:

March 15-16:  1st round.  This is NOW, so get busy finding and reading an article.  Hurry!

March 17-20:  Rounds 1 & 2

March 24-27:  West, Southwest, East and Southeast Regionals

April 2 & 4:  Final 4

Bonus Challenge:  Explain why March Madness finishes in April?!?!

There is also some great information on www.thinkquest.org.  Click on the library tab and you won’t need to log in.  Then use “colonial kids” as your keyword search terms.
