Up, Up and Away! The Eckstein Library is thrilled to report that we have taken a giant leap into the 21st century. Thanks to continued, and very generous support, from the Eckstein community we recently completed a facilities upgrade that wired the library to run 32 PCs on state of the art CAT-5 wiring. For a number of years, Eckstein librarians and teachers were teaching information literacy using 18 PCs for classes of up to 32. Currently we have 32 PCs up and running and all of this is due to the support received from the EAC and the great Eckstein community. Thank you!
The Eckstein library‘s mission is to create a sophisticated 21st century learning environment that offers a full range of print and electronic resources that provide equal learning opportunities to all students. The library is a place of opportunity that offers students access to a collection of classic and contemporary print and electronic resources, as well as the chance to explore technology that they can integrate into their learning.
Continued funding from the EAC will:
- help update the non-fiction and reference materials that students use for research across the school‘s curriculum.
- fund the purchase of new books to build the library‘s very popular and widely used fiction section. Last year funding from the EAC improved the average of the library’s fiction collection by more than 2 years!
- provide a library assistant, enabling the librarian to spend time collaborating with teachers. Collaboration between librarians and teachers is important to our students.
- increase each student’s access to technology.
The Eckstein library is energized and excited about the direction we are heading – up, up and away!
