Dear Students,

It has been a pleasure to work with you this year.  I have had a lot of fun getting to know you as people and students and helping you grow into the wonderful young adults you will become.  Thank you for the privilege of teaching and learning with you.  Enjoy your summer and best of luck in 7th grade!

1. If you have borrowed a book from room 209 this year, please return it so that more students can enjoy it. Check your locker, your backpack, under your bed, etc!

2. Last day to turn in work is Friday, June 18th.

3.  Please take your Writer’s Notebook home before Friday.

Purpose: Students will type final drafts of their friendly letters.

Letters are due at the end of the period.  The rough draft must be included when the letter is handed in.

Monday, June 14th

Purpose: Students will create a visual art piece that represents their 6th grade year to include with their friendly letter.

There is no make up work if you are absent today.

Upcoming: Friendly Letter due Tuesday or Wednesday.

Friday, June 11th

Purpose: Students will edit their friendly letters.

Activities: Students will work with a peer to edit their friendly letters.  Please see the instructions here.  If you are absent, you need to find an adult to edit your letter using the instructions here.

Upcoming: Friendly Letters due Tuesday or Wednesday at the end of the period.

Thursday, June 10th

Purpose: Students will draft their friendly letter using the outline and examples provided. (Writing EALR 1.2. Produces draft(s).

Activities: Students will look at an example letter to use as a guide.  Students will then draft their letter using the outline provided on the assignment sheet.  To see an example friendly letter to a new sixth grader, click here.

NO MORE READING LOGS ARE DUE.

Purpose: Students will generate ideas for a friendly letter to a new sixth grader by thinking about their sixth grade year. (Writing EALR 1.1. Prewrites to generate ideas and plan writing; Writing EALR 2.3. Writes in a variety of forms/genres.)

Activities: Students will do several writing activities to help them think of ideas for their friendly letter.  To see the writing activities, click here. We will then go over the requirements and the rubric for the assignment.  To see the assignment/rubric, click here. If you are absent the writing activities need to be completed.   The friendly letter is due at the end of class on Tuesday or Wednesday June 15th or 16th.  will then receive their copy of our poetry anthology and will have time to sign the books.

Monday, June 7th

Students will be attending a field trip to Safeco field today.  Students will be gone all day.  If you have questions, please call the main office at 252-5010.

If your student has borrowed books from room 209, please ask them to return them so our class library is intact for next year.  Library books are also due now.  Students will be charged for missing books.

Friday, June 4th

Dear Friends and Family of Team 6B,

Please join us for our final Writer’s Workshop celebration during your student’s period on Friday, June 4th.  Students will read the work of their classmates, reflect upon their own writing, and have time to celebrate their accomplishments.  

Please email me if you would like to attend.  We also would welcome treats and drinks (nut free, please.)  If you would like to attend, the schedule is below.  Please check in at the main office and then join us in room 209.
