** Eckstein families, you ROCK!  Thank you so much from the entire Eckstein staff for all the great food you brought in and the fantastic things you donated for the Staff Appreciation drawings this week.  We have felt immensely appreciated by shower of the coffee cards, restaurant gift cards, flowers and plants, chocolate, caramel corn, cupcakes, ice cream gift cards, bookstore certificates, movie tickets, car wash coupons, Target cards, U. Village gift cards and more this week. We actually had enough donations to make sure every staff member took something home, and that’s a LOT of donations!  Also, the next time you’re in Jamba Juice (in Whole Foods on 65th), Noah’s Bagels (in U. Village QFC), Ram Restaurant (in U. Village) or 50 North Restaurant (on 25th NE), please thank them for their generous donations to Eckstein’s staff this week.

A Current Fine List is Posted Outside the Main Office: Students – be sure and clear any fines immediately.  Either return the item to the staff person who originated the fine or bring in payment made payable to “Eckstein Middle School” to the Main Office.  Fines may impact participation in future activities.

The Eastern Hemisphere Museum Night will be May 16th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the library and adjoining hallway. All Sixth grade families are invited to attend for a portion of the evening to view the students’ displays of artifacts representing the history and cultures of the Eastern Hemisphere from prehistory to modern times.   Reminder to students:  Projects are due by May 15.

Also at the Museum Night, a booth will be set up for chaperone applications for the King Tut Field Trip on June 15th. For adults wanting to chaperone on this popular field trip, come prepared to complete the application and with a photocopy of your Driver’s License.

**HOST  FAMILIES  are needed for exchange students from around the world. Your home could welcome a student (you choose boy or girl) and they would attend the high school closest to your home.  Hosting an exchange student often means you will find that you have added a wonderful new member to your family.  All students are non-smokers, non-drinkers, have been screened and passed all background checks, have been personally recommended by their principals for their character and are on the top tier, academically, in their schools.  Students come with medical insurance, a monthly allowance, cell phone, lap top and a huge desire to experience our culture.  The host families are to provide the high school student with their own bed, meals and a place to study.   Students arrive in August and fly home in July. They are eager to see and experience family life in the U.S and hopefully see some area attractions. The non-profit foundation is A.F.I.C.E, (www.afice.org) Academic Foundation for International Cultural Exchange and is one of the oldest and most highly regarded exchange programs in America.  If you are interested, or have questions, please contact me anytime.       Thank you.    Kristi York,    AFICE Area Coordinator, 206 387 6554.     kyork@spu.edu
