Twitter Week in Review for 2010-06-27

  • Mon, last day of reg schedule: students cleaned out class binders to take home & we played Jeopardy to review history from the entire year #
  • Tues, last day of school: 6th graders are watching a movie and the talent show, then have activities for the afternoon until 1:35 #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-06-20

  • Mon: work time on Other Early Peoples; students wrote an outline of their presentation and began work on ppt, map and artifact drawing #
  • Note: Friday (June 18) is the due date for the OEP project and it is the last day we will accept late work from 4th quarter. #
  • Tues/Wed: last extended periods of the year. Students are working for the entire period on the Other Early Peoples project (due Friday) #
  • Thurs: final day to work on Other Early Peoples project. Students will present on Friday. #
  • Fri: students presented their Other Early Peoples projects to their classmates. #

  • Tues/Wed: final day to work on CBA; students must finish research and prewriting then write comparative essay (due at the end of the period) #
  • Thurs: 1st day of work on the Other Early Peoples project, students learned their topics, formed groups & began researching their topics #
  • Fri: more time to do research for the Other Early Peoples project #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-06-06

  • Tues/Wed: students read about the legacy of Greece or Rome then began work on a drawing to show how these civs relate to the modern world #
  • Thurs: day 1 of work on the CBA. Students selected topics and began taking notes to review two civilizations we studied earlier this year. #
  • Fri: day 2 of CBA; finish research then begin comparing similarities and differences between the two civilizations. #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-05-30

  • Mon: we began work on the Rise & Fall of the Roman Empire skits by reading the historical information from History Alive! #
  • Tues/Weds: we are writing scripts and using PowerPoint to create virtual sets for our Rise and Fall of Rome skits #
  • Thurs: we rehearsed the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire skits. #
  • Fri: we performed the informative and entertaining Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire skits #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-05-23

  • Mon (4th period): we read about the Roman Republic and defined key terms, then compared it to Greek democracy #
  • Mon (1,2,3,6): we looked at this week's complicated testing schedule, then we began reading about 4 types of Greek governments #
  • Tues: MSP math test, then periods 1,2,3 finished Greek governments & began defining terms related to the Roman Republic #
  • Wed: all 6th graders attended a performance of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, then we had early release day #
  • Thurs: MSP reading test, then period 4 will compare Athens & Sparta, period 6 will work on the Roman Republic worksheet. #
  • Fri: we watched the movie "Time Life Lost Civilizations: Greece" to learn about the cultural achievement of the ancient Greeks #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-05-16

  • Mon: continued work on China Infographic, including a mini-lesson on analyzing graph & data to write the title that includes a fraction or % #
  • Tues/Wed: last day to work on China Infographic; focus is on writing, adding graphics and citing sources #
  • Thurs: China quiz, then we began our unit on Greece and Rome by looking at the geographic challenge of living on a mountainous peninsula. #
  • Fri: finish and turn in China Infographic, continuing geography of Greece, then comparing Athens & Sparta. Busy day! #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-05-09

  • Mon: mini-lecture on 3 Chinese philosophies (Taoism, Confucianism and Legalism) followed by more time to work on Marco Polo Journals #
  • Tues/Wed: we are creating flow charts to show events in Modern China, including the Opium War, Communist Revolution and Tiananmen Square #
  • Thurs: Day 1 of the China Infographic assignment; we looked at example infographics then began collecting data about China #

  • Fri: more time to work on the China Infographic, with a focus on creating graphs in Excel #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-05-02

  • Mon: we examined artifacts from the Shang Dynasty in order to review the 7 characteristics of civilization. #
  • Tues/Wed [1/2]: we read about the Shang Dynasty to decide if we made accurate inferences about the artifacts on Monday #
  • Tues/Wed [2/2]: we read about Qin Shihuangdi, the first Emperor of China & who began the Great Wall, to decide if he was an effective ruler #
  • Thurs: we began reading about Marco Polo's journey to China during the time of the Mongol Empire to begin the Marco Polo journal assignment #
  • Fri: more time was provided for students to read about Marco Polo and the Mongol Empire, some students began rough drafts of journals #

Twitter Week in Review for 2010-04-25

  • Mon: we changed seats for the new quarter, updated planners and began work on the map of China #
  • Tues/Wed: can you see the Great Wall of China from space? http://bit.ly/IwcGU Also, more time to work on China Maps #
  • Thurs: (1) we turned in the Finding Common Ground letter (2) we created lists of adjectives to describe the geographic regions of China #
  • Fri: we created a classroom-sized map of China to review the major geographic regions and compare inner and outer China. #
